The first Richland pound series clips
May 12 contains the first in my series on the Richland pound. Richland is a small town in Pulaski County that has some very questionable practices involving their pound. I conducted an investigation into the pound beginning in November of 2010. This investigation resulted in the firing of City Administrator Anita Ivy and the Department of Agriculture internal investigation one of their own inspectors. This story is still unfolding. This paper also featured a story I did on the discovery of a woman who had been missing.

The second in a series about housing costs
This clip features the second story in a series of five about the cost of living and buying a house in the Waynesville/St. Robert area. I researched data online and conducted interviews with local real estate agents, loan officers, members of the military and other key people to compile the information found in this story showing the inflation of the real estate market in the local area.

Pound and a murder-suicide
This paper features another in the pound series as well as a hard news story about a murder-suicide in one of Pulaski County's small towns, Dixon, Mo. I worked the murder-suicide from my cell phone on my home computer. I was tipped off about the story by a contact who called me and told me about it. The crime happened across the street from her mother's house. I had to track down Marshal Yokum's cell phone number through a number of people to get my quotes, but we got the story.

Body identified and Third Thursday
These two stories represent two of the beats that I cover. Third Thursday is a city hall story and Body identified is a cops and courts story. I'm still following the story about Arley Campbell and interviewed his family on Monday to follow up with the investigation.

Unpaid bills and a profile on Kelley Howley
These two stories are good examples of my range. The unpaid bills story is a city hall story in which the city was trying to write off unpaid utility bills. Another local reporter sensationalized the story and immediately published the names of businesses and individuals named as having unpaid bills. I felt this was irresponsible and withheld the names so that I could do a follow-up story with the city utilities office. As a consequence of this, I got an exclusive story and built on a positive relationship with city administrators. The profile is an ASF style interview and tag-along with a volunteer and her therapy dog at the military hospital on Fort Leonard Wood.
